Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go – Dr. Suess
The wise words of Dr. Suess are actually surprisingly helpful! A few weeks ago I discovered a letter in the mail informing me of my acceptance to UBC. I had always planned on leaving home as soon as I graduated, but now that the time has come, I’m not so sure. I love the city of Vancouver and I know that living away from home will be a great experience, but the fear of the unknown can be daunting. A decision about attending UBC needs to be made by June 1st, and I’m finding that date to slowly be creeping up on me! Coming from a small northern town, the idea of moving is so appealing but also very frightening. As education is my biggest priority and focus, I’m am strongly considering going. I know Dr. Suess would tell me “your mountain is waiting. So… get on your way” I am also busy preparing a presentation about myself, the pageant, and my platform for next week in the Pavement Princess Program! I’m finding this weekly volunteer experience to be very rewarding. I love getting to know each girl, and hearing about their concerns or problems in school. It feels great knowing that my advice might be helpful or make a difference! I will post more about my presentation with pictures next week!
